this is count binface’s moment. actually unreal scenes in UK politics right now.
for those not in the know:
fascist party leader Nigel Farage of the fascist party Reform is currently undergoing investigations for receiving large large money gifts and not declaring it (this is yet another scandal on top of an already huge mountain of scandals coming from the tosser)
to distract from the investigations and potentially avoid them, Farage resigned. when you resign as an MP (member of parliament), it triggers a by-election. Farage is standing in the by-election(!). So did he really resign? Well, this practice is sometimes used to re-affirm support after scandals. But in this case, Farage already knows he had good support there, and we all know that, and also…. the investigations haven’t concluded yet!! so this is a way of escaping + avoiding + hiding + distracting from them rather than taking accountability
ALL the other parties are calling his bluff: This is a sham election, and they’re not standing(!!!). In fact, everyone wants Farage to remain an MP so that the investigations can complete. Or at least, it’s well-known that he’ll almost certainly win again, and they want that to happen as quickly and as quietly as possible. After all, this is an attempt by Farage to get more airtime: Elections mean lots of press coverage and interviews and etc etc…
BUT! there’s one candidate who will stand against him: COUNT BINFACE. He’s a “joke” candidate who stands in almost all high profile elections in the country as a satire. It’s literally a man with his bin on his head, all dressed up to look like a darth vader-esque figure. He has ridiculous dreamberd-style policies, he’s absolutely hilarious, he intimidates the right wing media and right wing politicians, and he’s hugely loved by the British public
Farage originally stated that this election would be “people versus establishment”. When he says that, he’s lying to you that he’s “people” when of course he’s actually the 5 million-pound-receiving “establishment”. But it’s even funnier to imagine him calling Count Binface “the establishment” (finally some recognition / respect for our intergalactic bin-wearer 😆)
Another dimension here is this: Historically, left wing parties have always failed to cooperate which has only ever split the larger vote. But this by-election circus has finally got them to do all do something in unison (and even the right wing parties like the tories and restore and labour are joining in). This is the most significant “standing aside” collaboration we’ve ever seen. And in this case… everyone is standing aside for…. COUNT BINFACE
Count Binface is the clear alternative choice, simply because there is no other choice. Who knows how many votes he’ll get in the end. I imagine many people will just stay at home and not vote at all, or spoil their ballot paper. But it’s quite remarkable how the route towards kicking out fascism from the UK involves.. uhh … checks notes…. voting for a man with a bin on his head
We face a Reforn government at the next election. With Labour in turmoil, that election could come sooner rather than later. If Reform gets into power it means Trump, Britain edition. Take a look at what’s happening over there: People being jailed for life for making and sharing protest zines, trans people being “eradicated” (i quote), bazillions of dollars being wasted on vanity projects that funnel funds to billionaire friends, and war.
The best time to join the fight was ten years ago. The second best time is right now. There’s only one national party that’s pro-trans rights and pro-palestine. They’re also the only one that’s serious about tackling extreme wealth and the climate crisis (FEEL HOT ENOUGH YET?). yes that’s right it’s the green party: Here’s my advice
