Darkness

Darkness has been a huge part of my videos since …

Yet people seem to often forget that, and I get introduced onstage / online as someone who makes “wholesome content” by people who say they watch a lot of my stuff

i think there’s a chance that some people don’t look at what i make beyond the surface, only notice the forced fake “hello :) and welcome back :) to the sandpond saga :)” and then close the video before the twist(s), not realising it was always “hello :| and welcome back :| to the sandpond saga :|”

but i also reckon that there’s an aspect of melancholy that does feel rather wholesome. it’s comforting to sit in sadness / darkness / longing or whatever.

don’t worry, I’m okay! i [just] think it’s far more interesting to make art about the feelings that eat away at you instead of the ones that make you feel fine, because it’s the eat-away feelings that challenge us most, i think

… i’m a very loud excitable person in real life. i think i can be quite annoying. so it’s nice to explore completely different parts of me in certain other …

i think there’s no point in making art about [—]

i think there’s no point in making art that’s not about [—]

i think people get shocked by how cold i can be in my writing on the internet. i think they hear me say things equivalent to “everyone should feel comfortable to share the things they make freely without being harshly judged 🥰” and then they can’t understand why i also write so harshly. they hear me saying “what’s most important is human connection and collaboration and coming together 🤗” and don’t understand why i can write with such bluntness

but i’m telling you, if you only hear the 🥰 and the 🤗 and not the 😶 and the 😱 then you’re not listening close enough
